Michael Mortimer was born and raised in brisbane from a young age. Growing up Mick had a keen interest in cricket and rugby league and always enjoyed the majority of sports one of which was martial arts. Having already trained in Karate and boxing in his youth Mick without knowing was laying some of the foundations that would become usefull in MMA.
Whilst growing up Mick also had a love for animals and was a big fan of Steve Irwin and the Australia Zoo. Mick visited the zoo many times as a boy growing up and started work there when he was 17. Micks work at the zoo progressed and he ended up working with the reptiles, on any given day Mick carried out duties ranging from catching snakes from peoples houses to feeding komodo dragons.
Whilst working at Australia Zoo Mick was introduced to Dan Higgins and Kyle Noke who were working there employed as security for the Irwin family. After going to watch one of Kyles fights Micks interest in mma grew and he started his training under Dan Higgins at Integrated MMA the following year. That was five years ago and 11 MMA fights later he still loves his training, fighting and being part of the team.
Mick is a prime example of Team IMA’s 3rd generation of MMA fighters. Having learned MMA in its complete and pure form Mick brings about smooth transitions between all aspects of the art. Mick’s skills came into their own, capturing the Australian 60kg Title at Warriors Realm in November 2007 and Rize FC 60kg Title defeating former Shooto Champion Masahiro Oishi in 2010 . With an already impressive record and 2 Titles to his name Mick is sure to be amongst the very best fighters in his division for years to come.
